Welcome to Kawal Rock, a distinctive vineyard and distillery nestled in the stunning Hunter Valley. Here, we craft bespoke spirits and wines using local ingredients and grapes from our 60-year-old vines. Our vineyard lies at the base of the Rock, a site of deep cultural significance to the local Wonnarua people. According to legend, the twin wedge-tailed eagles that soar above the Rock, often seen circling our vineyard, are ancient protectors of this land. The Wonnaruan word for eagle, “Ka-Wal,” is the inspiration behind our name.

Kawal Rock is proudly women-owned and operated, with our Cellar Door reflecting our commitment to local craftsmanship and sustainability. The walls are lined with timber from recycled wine barrels, and our rustic bar and entry door were crafted by skilled local artisans. At the heart of the Cellar Door stands our handmade Tasmanian copper still, where we create our signature gin range, distilled from wine and infused with a mix of traditional and native botanicals. We are passionate about celebrating all things Australian, and our uniquely charming Cellar Door also serves as an events and performance space.

Owners Maria and Louise fell in love with the harmony between the old European vines and the rugged Australian bushland, with the Rock standing sentinel over the vineyard and the endless country skies above. Their vision was to create a destination that brings people together in celebration.
